So much so Admiral Farragut will retire Speights' number (53) this morning at 8 a.m. in a ceremony at the school.
Speights, a Florida freshman forward, was part of the Gators' national championship team this season.
But in 2004-05, Speights was a Class A all-state selection and on the Times' all-county second team after averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Jackets. He also was an all-county pick in 2003-04 when he played at Gibbs.
"It's not too often you have someone who wins a national championship in a program like this, " Admiral Farragut coach Anthony Lawrence said. "We wanted to show how much Marreese meant to us."
