Hearing for Yankees executive is delayed

ST. PETERSBURG  - A hearing for New York Yankees executive Steve Swindal, charged in February with DUI in St. Petersburg, has been continued until June 21. Swindal was clocked driving 61 mph in a 35 mph zone, an arrest affidavit says. He has pleaded not guilty. Swindal, 52, was in line to succeed George Steinbrenner as head of the Yankees. But that was in question after his wife, Jennifer Lynn Steinbrenner Swindal, filed for divorce.

 

Big cash is seized inside grow house

TAMPA - Hillsborough sheriff's investigators seized $109, 000 and charged three roommates with growing marijuana. Arrested Wednesday at 4310 S 26th Ave. were Gonzalo Lopez, 34; Marielys Lopez-Posada, 38; and Renato F. Cruciani, 66. Detectives followed a tip to the home at 8:45 p.m., and found a "large and elaborate indoor marijuana growing operation" and 60 plants, deputies said.

 

Hockey Mask Robber charges get longer

ST. PETERSBURG - Police have added six charges against a man dubbed the "Hockey Masked Robber." Marc Crawley, 28, now faces six counts of armed robbery in Pinellas County and one count in Hillsborough County. He was arrested Tuesday after a tip from a witness who saw him take off the hockey mask, authorities said. Police arrested him on one robbery charge Tuesday and added more charges Thursday.

Police searching for serial bank robber

St. Petersburg police were searching Thursday for the robber of three banks. He is in his 40s, about 185 pounds with a mustache. He wore a black cap with a red bill, sunglasses, a blue sweatshirt and jeans when he robbed the Bank of America at 2145 34th St. N Tuesday. He fled east on 22nd Avenue N in a 1990s light tan Ford Taurus. Police say he recently robbed two Wachovia and SunTrust bank branches in St. Petersburg.
