Illness claims Kay Adams, utilities chief

Kay Adams, who had served as director of the Hernando County Utilities Department since 1999, died at her home Friday afternoon after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Adams, of Crystal River, worked for county government for 28 years, beginning in 1979 with the Public Works Department. She moved to the Utilities Department in 1986 and served as assistant director for seven years before becoming director. Memorials may be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34662; Girl Scouts of the Suncoast Council, 16119 Boyette Road, Riverview, FL 33569, or the Brooksville Rotary Club.
Ride to show respect for cyclists
Local bicyclists are invited to participate in the national Ride of Silence on Wednesday. Riders are to meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Suncoast Trail off Cortez Boulevard, just west of the Suncoast Parkway. The ride will start at 7 p.m. and travel about 10 miles to the Hernando County Government Center at 20 N Main St. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office will provide an escort. This is a free ride aimed at raising the awareness of motorists, police and elected officials that cyclists have a legal right to public roadways. For more information, call Steve Diez, at 754-4057.
