Library to show Oscar-winning Eastwood film

The Hernando County Public Library System will show the movie Million Dollar Baby, at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave.
The movie is directed by and stars Clint Eastwood as a hardened trainer/manager who works with a determined woman, played by Hilary Swank, in her attempt to establish herself as a boxer.
The 2004 film is rated PG-13. It won four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Eastwood, Best Actress for Swank and Best Supporting Actor for Morgan Freeman.
There is no cost to attend and light refreshments will be served. For information, call 540-6391.
Woman's club hosting races and auction
The Brooksville Woman's Club will host a Derby Day and the Races and Auction from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the clubhouse, 131 S Main St.
Tokens from the races will be used for auction bids. Refreshments will be available.

Keep chinch bugs away from your lawn
A free class, "Chinch Bugs in St. Augustine Grass, " will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Forest Oaks Government Center, 7479 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The speaker will be Hernando County Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Program Coordinator John Korycki, who will discuss when chinch bugs attack, and how to control and prevent them using Florida-friendly prevention and control techniques.

Learn the secrets of plant propagation
A free class, "Plant Propagation Made Easy, " will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St. The speaker will be Urban Horticulture Agent Jim Moll, who will demonstrate the secret of growing plants from cuttings, seeds and division. Participants should expect to go outdoors.

Genealogy expert to speak at seminar
The Citrus County Historical Society and Hernando County Historical Advisory Commission will host a seminar on Historic Preservation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Citrus County Historic Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Square.
The speaker will be Jim Powell Jr., assistant state coordinator of the Florida Genealogy Web, a branch of the U.S. Genealogy Web. Powell is an archival specialist with the Alachua County Clerk's Office and has instituted an online transcription project there. A brief question-and-answer session will follow.

Bowl a few games, help build a park
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill Central will host its fifth annual Bowling Benefit at 1 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill Lanes, 3447 Commercial Way.
Team sponsorships are $100 for a team of four bowlers. Lane sponsorships are $50. Bowlers will be able to compete for more than $2, 000 in prizes.

Join in planting Florida-friendly plants
The "Renaissance in the Gardens, " a planting of Florida-friendly plants at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens, will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The gardens are at 1489 Parker Ave.
There will be a continental breakfast, followed by programs, displays and information on Florida-friendly planting. Afterward, volunteers will be needed to help with the planting at the botanical gardens.
