Tampa police shot an Apollo Beach teen several times Saturday night after they saw him attempt to rob a man at gunpoint, said police spokesman Paul Lusczynski.
Neighbors called police to report three teens on bicycles suspiciously prowling the area at N 17th Street and E 12th Avenue, Lusczynski said.
Two plainclothes officers arrived in an unmarked minivan and saw Ahmad Black, 16, cover his face with a mask and force a passing man to the ground at gunpoint, he said.
The 37-year-old victim told police that the two officers yelled at Black to drop his gun. Then Black moved toward the victim, and the police fired, hitting him in the ankle, elbow and buttocks, Lusczynski said.
Black was in stable condition Sunday at Tampa General Hospital. He faces charges of aggravated assault and armed robbery.
