New dance with 'New Grounds'
By Marty Clear, Times correspondent
Published May 16, 2007
Six years ago, Moving Current introduced a modest series called New Grounds to present works by up-and-coming choreographers from around Florida. The concert has now evolved into a weeklong event with master classes in jazz and modern dance, plus an informal free afternoon concert. The highlight is still the New Grounds concert. The 2007 edition is at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday in Theater I on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida. The concerts have always presented quality work, but they've gotten better as the reputations of both Moving Current and the New Grounds have continued to grow. Included this year are works by Robyn Luck of Hard Luck Dance Company in Miami and Rachael Inman of Fusion Dance Artists in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. Both companies are new and appearing in Tampa for the first time. Show and Tell, a free concert in which choreographers can present new work and solicit feedback from the audience, is slated for 4 p.m. today (May 17) in Theater I. Tickets for the main New Grounds concert are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). There's more information at movingcurrent.com/newgrounds.
