- Seven Springs Middle Chorus Concert, 7 p.m. Thursday at the school.

- Schrader Elementary chorus presents The Pirates of Penzance at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school. The Schrader band also will perform.

Youth library events

Registration for the Summer Reading Club for children and teens starts Saturday at Pasco County Libraries. Patrons should contact the youth librarian at their local branch for details.

Newsmakers

- The Gulf Middle School Unified Team won the gold medal in the statewide Special Olympics competition. Special Olympic Team members were: Jonathan Franco, Cody Gauvin, Kaylin Gordon, Sam Kepner, Tulandra Marshall, Johnny McGroary, Jazzy Weeks, and Michael Wirshals. Individual medals went to Jazzy Weeks (silver) and Cody Gauvin (bronze). Unified Team members (without disabilities): Joey Peace, Jimmy Tiexiera and Regenia Pascalli. Coaches: P.E. instructor Kim Russon and classroom instructors Jeannette Gresham and Tom Morreale.

- Gulf Middle School Tropicana Speech Contest winners: Grade 6 - first, Elizabeth Rutherford; second, Lora Scudlo; third, Katrina Enoch; honorable mention, Elizabeth Wolf. Grade 7 and 8 - first, Shannen Gleghorn; second, Katie Mancini; third, Danielle Ellis.
