Paris Hilton's jail term cut to about 23 days

Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said Wednesday. The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said. Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said. Like everyone else in the 2, 200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each, he said. The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
L.A. traffic stop puts Ike Turner behind bars
Ike Turner, who gained music fame in the 1960s behind the powerful vocals of wife Tina, was held without bail at a Los Angeles jail Wednesday after police pulled him over for speeding and discovered he had an outstanding felony drug warrant. Officers spotted Turner's 2002 Mercedes S-50 driving faster than 80 mph and straddling lanes on the northbound San Diego Freeway on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Times reported. Turner, 75, exited the freeway and was pulled over about 11:45 p.m., an LAPD spokeswoman said. After running a warrants check, officers discovered that he had a no-bail felony narcotics warrant. Turner was taken into custody.

He told the board that one of his four children has asthma, said Leni May, the wife of board member Peter May. "Bono was so nice, " she said. "He said, 'Listen, whatever I can do to get these things working, but it's emptying into my apartment and I can't have smoke like that.' "
