COLOR GUARD COMES IN FIFTH IN FIELD OF 40
Hernando High School's Junior ROTC Color Guard placed fifth in open levels Color Guard Competition at the National Junior ROTC Drill and Color Guard Championships. The Color Guard team of Kristen Churchill, Rachel Campbell, Marijane Estes and Cari Gandy competed against 40 teams from 31 states.
A feel for science leads to awards
State Science Fair winners from Hernando County are: Brooks Timmons, Challenger K8, American Meteorological Society Award; Chris Sarabalis, Springstead, U.S. Navy medal and certificate; Natashia Philips. Springstead, Heartland Region $50 savings bond. Recognition in chemistry Brittany Wert of Challenger and Philip Lakin III, Springstead. Honorable mention: Liesl Swoyer, Springstead, behavioral science; Jacob Pulawski, Challenger, engineering and Jeron Impreso, Challenger, physics. Fourth place Chris Sarabalis in engineering; Adam Schuster, Challenger, environmental science; Samantha Petrovich, J.D. Floyd, medicine and health. Second place: Colleen Pulawski, Challenger in physics and Justin Cotto of J.D. Floyd in botany.
FFA names student of the year Pankow
The Florida FFA Association selected Hernando High senior Samantha Pankow as 2007 Agriscience Student of the Year. Samantha is a member of Brooksville's Senior FFA Chapter. She and her advisor, Rick Ahrens, will be recognized during the Florida FFA State Convention on June 13.
Athlete physicals available for $20
On May 19, the Center for Bone and Joint Disease offers physicals at 11307 Cortez Blvd. on Oak Hill Hospital's Campus. High school and middle school students are invited. Athletes will be charged $20. Nature Coast students may come at 8 a.m.; Springstead at 9; Hernando High at 10; Central at 11 a.m. Contact number is 596 0900.

Kindergarteners don caps, gowns
Pine Grove kindergarten graduation is May 17 at 9:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. Their School Advisory Council meeting is 3:45 p.m. that same day. An end of the year awards programs for each grade will take place between today and May 30; call the school for dates.
Evening session of Round Up set
Brooksville Elementary has Kindergarten Round Up especially for working parents from 5-7 p.m. today in the front office. Parents can pick up registration packets and drop off documentation. Return packet before July 2 to receive a free kindergarten T-shirt and a special goody bag.
Appreciation lunch, graduation
The Brooksville Elementary Teacher Appreciation Luncheon is Friday. Mrs. Guarnieri's Pre-K graduation is Friday at 11 a.m.; fifth-grade graduation is at Hernando High Auditorium, Tuesday at 9 a.m.; kindergarten is May 24, 9 a.m. (Mrs. Downs, Mrs. Martin), 10:30 a.m. (Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Chiddix).
