No one from the Academy at the Farm charter school showed up Tuesday to thank the Pasco County School Board for approving the school's expansion by another 35 students. But they had good reason: director Michael Rom and much of his staff were on their way to Washington, D.C., where the Center for Education Reform was honoring Academy at the Farm as one of the nation's 53 best charter schools. That's out of nearly 4, 000 across the country. The rating was based on several categories, including student achievement, improvement over time, percentage of at-risk students served and parental involvement. "We're ecstatic, " said Tami Flournory, head middle school teacher, who stayed behind to run the K-8 campus. They plan a local celebration next week. Bur don't rush over in hopes of securing a spot at the school in Dade City - it has a waiting list of about 175, with most of the new slots targeted to siblings of kids who attend there now.

Dade City's will feature several local businesses, the chamber of commerce, the Main Street organization, Pioneer Florida Museum, the annual Kumquat Festival and the Dade City Business Center's downtown trolley tours.
