Melinda Doolittle was determined to leave American Idol as classy as she came Thursday, refusing to diss her fellow competitors during a conference call with reporters or bemoan her third-place finish. "I was up against two amazing contestants, " she said. "Also, I know that I was probably getting a little of the older vote, which is great. They may not spend a full two hours voting, and that's okay. I really feel personally that I've won as far as where I ended up in the competition." With former employers such as CeCe Winans calling the onetime backup singer to offer support and former Idol contestant Mandisa as her best buddy, Doolittle, 29, is well prepared for post-Idol challenges. What kind of album will she make? "The only way I know to describe it is soul music. I love a groove, anything where I can tell a story."
Bo Diddley ailing
Bo Diddley was in intensive care after suffering a stroke, a publicist said. The legendary 78-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist, who lives in Gainesville, was listed in guarded condition at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., Susan Clary told the Associated Press. Diddley, who has hypertension and diabetes, was hospitalized Sunday after a concert in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in which he acted disoriented, she said. Tests indicated that the stroke affected the left side of his brain, impairing his speech. Clary said she has no other details.
Ike's warrant outdated
Ike Turner was released from jail after one night when it was determined that the 1989 narcotics warrant he was arrested on was invalid, police said. Turner, the 75-year-old musician and ex-husband of Tina Turner, was jailed Wednesday when the warrant turned up during a routine search after he was stopped for doing more than 80 mph and straddling lanes on a Los Angeles freeway, Officer April Harding told the AP on Thursday. At a court hearing Wednesday, she said, it was determined that the warrant was old and should have been removed from the system.
