Road rage incident leads to stabbing

TAMPA -- One man was hospitalized after a road rage incident escalated into a stabbing early Thursday, according to Hillsborough sheriff's deputies.

Just after midnight, Terry Cagle, 27, was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon and cut off a sport utility vehicle driven by 25-year-old Chad Etenburn of Tampa, said sheriff's spokeswoman Vida Morgan, who called Cagle's maneuver inadvertent.

Etenburn's brother Ian, 22, was with him. They followed Cagle to his home on 4217 King Alfred Drive, got out and approached him. Deputies said Chad Etenburn struck Cagle on the head with a flashlight, and Ian joined in the beating.

But Cagle stabbed Ian Etenburn in the chest with a knife, deputies said.

Chad put Ian in the SUV and sped away. Deputies and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials found them at a Shell gas station at 4002 Orient Road. Ian Etenburn was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he remains in fair condition.

Deputies said Cagle fled and was found at Corporate Park and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards. No charges have been filed, and deputies are continuing their investigation.
