A team-by-team look at Pasco County football:
Coach: To be determined. For now, the assistants are sharing the duties along with athletic director Mike Zelenka. He said he hopes to name a replacement by Thursday.
Last year: The Hurricanes went 6-4 in their second varsity season.
District: Class B, District 6 (Bradenton Prep, Calvary Christian, Cambridge, Keswick Christian, Sarasota Out-of-Door, Tampa Baptist)
Did you know?: Zelenka played football at Notre Dame under former coach Bob Davey. Yes, Zelenka got to suit up for every home game since his sophomore year and got in for one play on the road against Rutgers. He was part of the kickoff coverage.
Breakout player: Devon Townson has stepped in to replace Coleman Hengesbach at quarterback.
Who's back: Not a lot of people. Bishop McLaughlin lost 11 seniors and had 18 kids come out this spring. Those numbers would have climbed above 20 had the baseball team not gone deep into the postseason. Some of those kids would have come out for baseball, but were excused from spring practice to rest their bodies.
What's new: Well, there's lights on the ground surrounding the football field so night games should be on tap for next season. There's also a section of bleachers for fans, but no other concrete plans for expansion.
Spring revelation: Bishop McLaughlin needs more players.
Spring scrimmage: Tonight, 7, vs. Lakeland Christian at Lakeland Santa Fe.
