New shopping center to have a JCPenney

Yet another shopping center got under way this week with the ground-breaking for Nature Coast Commons, a 350, 000-square-foot retail center anchored by JCPenney, announced developer Opus South. The plaza, with a projected completion date of early 2008, is on 42 acres on U.S. 19 south of Spring Hill Drive. The JCPenney store will take up 104, 000 square feet of the plaza. Other retailers projected for the project include an electronics retailer, a book store, a grocery store, an arts and crafts retailer and fashion stores. Outparcels would accommodate restaurants, a coffee shop and a bank, among other retailers.
HIV/AIDS awareness seminar Tuesday
A free "Silence is Death" HIV/AIDS awareness seminar will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Temple AME Church, 824 Leonard St.
The program will be presented by Hillsborough County Health Department Human Services Manager Mellita Mills-Kendrick and Hernando County Health Department Health Services Representative Laura Dunn. Free HIV/AIDS testing will be offered, using the OraSure HIV-1 specimen collection method, which involves no needles.

'Taste of Brooksville' is on sale at hospital
Brooksville Regional Hospital Auxiliary will host a cookbook sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in the hospital cafeteria, 17240 Cortez Blvd., west of Brooksville.
The auxiliary will be selling copies of the Brooksville Garden Club's most recent cookbook, A Taste of Brooksville. A percentage of the sales will go to the Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. For information, call 596-9807 or 442-0169.
NAACP BRANCH HOLDS MEETING ON MONDAY
The Hernando County Branch NAACP will have a general membership meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 661 S Brooksville Ave.

Boots and Pearls Ball will include auction
Youth and Family Alternatives will host its second annual Boots and Pearls Ball on June 15 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Ave.
The event will begin with a cash bar at 6:30 p.m. A barbecue dinner by Bear's Monster Grill will be at 7 p.m., followed by entertainment by the Wiley Fox Band. There will be a live auction conducted by George Johnson from G.E. Johnson Auctioneers from McAlpin. Tickets are $60 each.
Table sponsorships are available and range from $1, 000 to $1, 500. Advertising in the event program is also available and ranges from $50 for a business card ad to $250 for a full-page ad. The deadline for sponsorships and ads is June 1.
