A 52-year-old man who ran across the path of a car on U.S. 19 Wednesday night is brain dead, New Port Richey police said Friday. Eduardo Mejia, of Costas Ave. in New Port Richey, ran westbound across the busy highway near Cross Bayou at about 8:32 p.m. Wednesday, said Cpl. Steve Kostas. Mejia, who was headed to Labor Ready, a company that contracts work, ran into the path of 17-year-old Neysha Pagan's 2003 Toyota sedan, Kostas said. Pagan, of Holiday, will not be charged, Kostas said, because Mejia ran in front of her car.
