Spring game-breakers: For a team that went 0-10 in 2006, Sickles controlled most of its half against Alonso. Quarterback Cullen O'Brien went 2-for-7 passing, including a 5-yard touchdown to fullback Dale Russell. Kicker Corey Page hit a 31-yard field goal to open scoring, converted an extra point and had a pick as defensive back. Ravens quarterback Geno Quintana threw two interceptions and gave up two fumbles. ...In the second half, Jesuit cruised early as quarterback Mitch Pfeiffer and receiver Eric McGriff hooked up on four passes for 101 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown. Leto's score came on a 1-yard QB sneak by John Ellington.
Did you know?: McGriff is the son of former Devil Ray Fred McGriff, who was in attendance Friday. ...Joining the Gryphons' coaching staff to help out with special teams and kicking was Pat O'Brien's father, Dick, who coached Hillsborough from 1985-92. Dick also is entering his 11th season as an assistant coach at Western Carolina.
Audible 1: "We're trying to rebuild here. They played one half of a football - that's all that is a half. ... I mean they dunked me with water so they're excited and that's good to see, meaning they want to have this win." Sickles' Pat O'Brien
Audible 2: "(Pfeiffer and McGriff) are both go-to guys. Mitch threw the heck out of the ball and Eric made all the catches. So we hope they continue that because that is a great combination weapon to have right there." Tigers coach Joe Ross.
