Gold Trophy for Hallo Flying Sol
Hallo Flying Sol rallies for first stakes victory and seventh triumph from 28 starts.

ST. PETERSBURG - Hallo Flying Sol used a super finish to spark a super payoff Saturday night in the 68th annual Gold Trophy Juvenile Stakes at Derby Lane.
Running for Filipelli & O'Donnell Kennel, Hallo Flying Sol rallied past Craigie Crimson for a 2 1/2-length victory in front of 4, 114 fans. A 23-month-old brindle male by Flying Penske and Sol Sassy, Hallo Flying Sol overcame a 3-length disadvantage in the stretch, winning the 550-yard event in 30.83 seconds.
Hallo Flying Sol, the fifth wagering choice, paid $21.40, $8.20 and $7.40. It was his first stakes victory and seventh triumph from 28 starts. The greyhound earned $9, 000 for owners David Cahill and Barney O'Donnell. Craigie Crimson ($12.80 and $10.80) finished 3 1/2 lengths in front of 2-1 favorite In Your Eye ($3). Godfather was fourth, completing a 7-8-1-6 superfecta payout of $17, 395.40.
George Cahill, son of the dog's co-owner, came from Chicago for the race. "I haven't been in a winner's circle presentation since 1991 (Dairyland in Kenosha, Wis.), " he said. "This is pretty special."
It was the third puppy stakes title for kennel co-owner John Filipelli, who won with Narmada (2002 at Tampa Greyhound Track) and To The Point (1999 at Derby Lane).
"(Hallo Flying Sol) was eligible for the Kansas Futurity, " Filipelli said. "but we elected to keep the dog here because we knew this was his kind of racetrack."
