Tourney's proceeds fund scholarships

The Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council will host its annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 9 at the Seven Hills Golfers Club, 10599 Fairchild Road, off Mariner Boulevard.
Women and men may participate. The cost is $45 per person. A shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. Following the tourney, there will be a luncheon and presentation of door prizes at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 10470 Spring Hill Drive.

Stop smoking class orientation Tuesday
The Hernando County Health Department will conduct orientation for its Freedom from Smoking classes Tuesday at its office at 7465 Forest Oaks Blvd.
Classes will run each Tuesday for seven weeks, through July 10. During the week of quit night (June 12), there will also be a meeting on June 14. All classes, including the orientation, will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Anyone who has considered quitting is encouraged to attend the free informational orientation session. Those who wish to take the program pay $25. For information, call Becky Martin at 540-6800, ext. 82148.
Black Educator's Caucus banquet
The Black Educator's Caucus will host its annual Marie A. Lawson Scholarship Banquet and Award Ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. June 8 at the Best Western Hotel, 30307 Cortez Blvd., east of Brooksville.
The key speaker will be Dr. Keylo King of Brooksville. Catering will be provided by Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant.

Help support troops at golf tournament
Sea Pines Golf Club will host the Support The Troops Charity Golf Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the golf club, 8211 Augusta Blvd.
Several sports celebrities will be on hand, including Tony Bland, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, Eddie Oyakhilome, formerly of the West Ham United and the Nigerian National Team, and Rex Sano of the NFL Alumni Association of Tampa.
The cost to enter the tournament is $20 per person, along with a nonperishable food item to be included in a care package (or a $5 donation). The event will include a lunch of hot dogs and burgers, chips and soda. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Garden club cookbook on sale at hospital
Brooksville Regional Hospital Auxiliary will host a cookbook sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the hospital cafeteria, 17240 Cortez Blvd., west of Brooksville.
The auxiliary will be selling copies of the Brooksville Garden Club's most recent cookbook, A Taste of Brooksville. A percentage of the sales will go to the Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. For information, call 596-9807 or 442-0169.
