Legislatures open floor to your tax ideas

Want your say on how Florida revamps property taxes? Now's your chance. Local state legislators have scheduled town hall meetings this week and next in anticipation of next month's special legislative session on property taxes:
- 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, St. Petersburg Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N
- 7 to 9 p.m. June 4, Oldsmar Council Chambers, 100 State St. W
- 7 to 9 p.m. June 6, Tarpon Springs Commission Chamber, 324 E Pine St.
- 5 to 8 p.m., May 31, Pinellas Realtor Organization, 4590 Ulmerton Road, Pinellas Park
Paramedic and EMT honored
Leroy Funderburk Jr. and Henrique "Rick" Chipelo were honored as Pinellas County's Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic of the Year, respectively, by the County Commission last week. EMT Funderburk, of Pinellas County Sunstar, was recognized for his city-wide disaster drill work, his work at the county Emergency Operations Center and his contribution to new employee orientation. Paramedic Chipelo, of St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, was awarded for his exceptional work in multiple emergency responses, including a lightning strike victim and underwater, vehicle-entrapped victims.
Explore Brooker with the experts
Learn about the different ecosystems at Brooker Creek Preserve from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the preserve's Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Road. The two-part program continues Saturday with a field excursion to explore different ecosystems, including pinewood flatwoods, xeric oak hammocks and sandhills. Art series seeks submissions
A new art series, Features Local Artistic and Innovative Renderings (FLAIR), is looking for artists for its June 23 event at Ulmer Park in downtown Largo. The group is seeking pieces from many genres, including short movies, paintings, sculptures and short fiction. Artist needed for charity event
A local artist is being sought for a charity event, GFWC Palm Harbor Junior Women's Club 11th annual "Taste of Palm Harbor." The winning artist's submission will be used for TV commercials, billboards, newspaper ads, commemorative posters and apparel. The group's signature event will be Oct. 7 on Florida Avenue in historic downtown Palm Harbor. Proceeds will benefit the Making a Difference grants and scholarship program.
