GE dishwashers

Company: GE Consumer & Industrial

Why? Liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser onto the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can cause an electrical short and overheating, posing a fire hazard.

What models? GE built-in dishwashers sold under these brand names: Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint and Sears-Kenmore. For model numbers and serial numbers, see Web site below.

Where sold? Department and appliance stores.

What to do? Contact General Electric for a free repair, a $150 rebate toward the purchase of a GE dishwasher or a $300 rebate toward the purchase of a GE Profile or GE Monogram dishwasher.

Children's gardening gloves

Company: MTD Products Inc.

Why? The stamp-painted logo on the backside of the gardening gloves contains high levels of lead.

What models? The gloves were part of the Budding Gardener Complete Gardening Set, which included a wheel barrel, sprinkling can, pair of gardening gloves, hand tools and seeds.

What to do? Contact firm to exchange the gloves for a free kids-size gardener's apron.

Why? The light sockets have a defect, which poses electrical shock and fire hazards.

Why? The decorative fish buttons on the shorts and shirt could detach, posing a choking hazard.

What models? The green plaid shorts, polo-style solid shirt trimmed with a blue and green stripe, and green plaid hat were sold in sizes 2T, 3T and 4T, and have a hangtag with style number 40873H94 GRN on it.

Where sold? Major department and discount department stores.

What to do? Remove and discard fish buttons.

Why? High lead levels.

What models? The jewelry includes pendants that hang from silver-colored bracelet and necklace chains, and silver-colored rings with a charm on top. Charm shapes include silver- colored crosses, suns, moons, stars, butterflies, cupids, angels, keys, elephants, hands, cell phones, fish and shoes.

Where sold? Vending machines in malls, discount, department and grocery stores.

What to do? Discard.

What to do? Return to any Mervyns store for refund.
