SPRING HILL - This morning, Hernando County commissioners are expected to appoint one of four applicants to an open Spring Hill Fire Rescue commission seat.
The county has advertised the seat since March, when it was discovered that commissioner Margaret Perreira's term ended in 2006. It was determined that there should have been an election in November.
The candidate appointed to the seat will sit on the five-member board through November 2008, when another election will be held.
Those Spring Hill residents who have applied are:
-Perreira, who is in the position as a holdover fire commissioner. Appointed by the county in 2004, she is the first woman to serve on the fire board. She is chief operating officer of University Community Hospital in Carrollwood.
-Michael Rosenberg, a former nurse and paramedic/firefighter who teaches in the paramedic program at Pasco-Hernando Community College.
-Salvatore J. Ruggiero Sr., a former New Jersey firefighter and fire commissioner.
-Robert J. Giammarco, who has a background in law enforcement, and who has applied to serve on the fire commission in recent years.
