Lawmakers will hold meetings on property taxes

COUNTYWIDE Want your say on how Florida revamps property taxes? Now's your chance. Local state legislators have scheduled town hall meetings this week and next in anticipation of next month's special legislative session on property taxes: -6 to 8 p.m. today, St. Petersburg Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N. -5 to 8 p.m. May 31, Pinellas Realtor Organization, 4590 Ulmerton Road, Pinellas Park. -7 to 9 p.m. June 6, Tarpon Springs Commission Chamber, 324 Pine St. COUNTYWIDE 40 sites available to recycle phone books New phone books will appear on your doorstep soon, so recycle that old one. Residents can go to one of 40 dropoff locations around the county. Most sites have bins labeled "phone books." If not, put the phone books in the "mixed paper" or "magazines" bins but not in the "newspaper" bin. For a list of phone book recycling sites, visit www.pinellascounty.org/utilities or call 464-7500. Pinellas residents discard more than 2-million phone books annually. To reduce the number of phone books delivered to your office or house this year, call Verizon at 1-800-888-8448 or Yellow Book at 1-800-929-3556. TREASURE ISLAND Work will close bridge on Thursday The Treasure Island Causeway Bridge will be closed Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a concrete pour on the bridge span that is under construction. The bridge construction is scheduled to be complete in August.
