Fire engulfed a two-story row house Tuesday, killing at least six people, including three children, and injuring seven others, most of them members of an extended family, authorities said. The cause remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon, but foul play was not considered likely, authorities said. There was no evidence the Baltimore home had working smoke detectors, fire Chief William J. Goodwin Jr. said. Authorities had not identified any of the dead by Tuesday evening.
Poll finds Muslims vary on bombings
One in four Muslims younger than 30 in the United States believes suicide bombings to defend Islam are justified in at least some circumstances, although nearly 80 percent of all Muslim Americans say such attacks are never acceptable, and most are critical of al-Qaida, according to a nationwide poll released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center. Most Muslim Americans are moderate, mainstream and middle class, the study shows. The poll estimates that there are roughly 2.35-million Muslim Americans. The study was based on telephone interviews with 1, 050 adult Muslims from January to April, and the margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

A breakaway conservative U.S. bishop also was snubbed. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the Anglican Communion, said he took the rare step so that the meeting can focus on keeping Anglicans together.
