Juneteenth panel to meet Saturdays
The Juneteenth Committee will meet at 5 p.m. every Saturday at the Russell Street Station until the Juneteenth Historical Festival takes place. The event will begin at noon June 14 and continue through 7 p.m. June 17 at Russell Street Park. The event will feature music and entertainment, Southern-style food, dancing, midway rides, and arts and crafts. "Juneteenth" is short for June 19, 1865, when slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Hospice needs volunteer help
Hernando-Pasco Hospice needs volunteers to work a few hours a week at the local Hospice House. Volunteers may cook and bake, visit with patients, arrange flowers or do laundry. A two-day orientation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 6 and 8 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice office, 12260 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. Registration for the orientation is required; call Mary Kay Sandell at 597-1882. Hospice is a nonprofit group that cares for those with a life-limiting illness.
