Buckle up, deputies are watching you

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office will show zero tolerance for roadway travelers not wearing their seat belts during the "Click It or Ticket" initiative, which is continuing through June 3.
During this time, law enforcement officers will have safety checkpoints at Ridge Manor Boulevard, Fort Dade Avenue, Sunshine Grove Road, Powell Road, Mondon Hill Road, Coronado Drive, Linden Drive, Pinehurst Drive, Shoal Line Boulevard, Forest Oaks Boulevard and Elgin Boulevard.
In addition to the roadway initiative, the sheriff's Marine Unit is conducting a "Safety on the Waterways/Safe Boating Week" through Monday. Water patrols have been increased and deputies will show zero tolerance for all safety violations.
Food distribution Saturday morning
Compassion Food Outreach will distribute food starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at Grace World Outreach Church, 20366 Cortez Blvd.
The distribution is sponsored by the church and Mid-Florida Community Services. Those wishing to receive food must have ID cards. To register for the food, call 796-3685.
Here comes the class for brides and grooms
The Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service will offer its marriage preparation class from 6 to 9 p.m. June 19 and 20 at the extension office, 19490 Oliver St.
The class fulfills the requirements of the Florida Marriage Preparation and Preservation Act. Couples who complete the course get a $32.50 discount on their marriage license. Also, the waiting period upon applying for the license is waived.
The class is approved by the circuit courts in Hernando, Sumter, Citrus and Pasco counties.
Couples must attend both sessions to receive a certificate of completion. The class costs $10 per couple. Registration is required by June 12.

Part of Linden Drive will close for 30 days
Starting June 6, a portion of E Linden Drive between Bamboo and Whitmarsh streets will be closed to through traffic for 30 days.
Hernando County Public Works is reconstructing this portion of Linden, south of Spring Hill Drive, to improve the intersection sight distance there, as well as improving water lines.
Detours will be posted in the area.

Delta Woods Park off-limits during work
Delta Woods Park will be closed June 4-8 for the repaving of the parking lot and general park maintenance.

Learn about flowers that love the heat
A free class, "Some Annuals Like It Hot, " will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Forest Oaks Government Center, 7479 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The speaker will be Urban Horticulture Agent Jim Moll of the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service.
Moll will discuss which annuals thrive in the intense heat of Florida summers, and how to properly care for them.
