Leto
Coach: Hugh Dehnert (second season, 2-8)
2006 record: 2-8
District opponents: Blake, Jefferson, Plant
Jamboree result: Lost to Jesuit 21-7
Who's gone: RB Donte Ashley, DE Luther St. Luis
Who's back: LB Alex Calle, OL/DL Leo DiGeronimo, QB John Ellington, RB/DB Darius McRoy, LB Adolfo Navarro, RB Marquis Nedd, QB Robert Scime, LB Don Wise
What's new: Transfer James Guyton. The defensive end, who has made an immediate impact on the Falcons, is a former Hillsborough player. Guyton (6 feet 2, 220 pounds) was the squad's top lineman this spring and will anchor a young Leto defense that is expected to start all sophomores in the secondary. On offense, Leto has the potential to be pretty good. Despite losing a 1, 000-yard rusher (Ashley) to graduation, the Falcons feel comfortable with their returning skill position players. McRoy and Nedd are solid runners, and both quarterbacks in the hunt for the starting job are capable players. Leto's line is experienced but needs to play better than it has in the past. After winning two games last year, Leto has modest expectations. First and foremost, its goal is to show improvement. That, Dehnert insists, is likely.
Audibles: "Should we be better than last year? Yes. Having been in the program a full year, the discipline is a little better, the grades are a little better, the attitudes are better and morale is a heck of a lot better. We seem to be heading in the right direction." - Dehnert
Did you know?: Dehnert played linebacker at Tarkio College, an NAIA program in Missouri, from 1982-86. The school no longer exists. ... Leto has not been to the playoffs since 1999.
