July fourth parade entry forms are here

Entry forms are available for those wishing to participate in the High Point community's July Fourth Parade.
The lineup will start at 8:30 a.m., with the parade starting at 9 and ending at the community center, where there will be a flag-raising ceremony.
Monetary awards will be given to the best entry in various categories.
Those wishing to participate in the parade must fill out an entry form and return it by June 15. For an entry form or details, call 592-3829.

Luncheon, fashion show at Kontos center
The Alzheimer's Family Organization and Eiasi Pharmaceuticals will present a charity luncheon fashion show at noon June 18 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church's Kontos Community Center, 9426 Little Road.
Fashions will be provided by Stein Mart of Palm Harbor. Lunch will be catered by Carrabba's Italian Grill. There will be door prizes, auctions and raffles.
Tickets are $25 each; purchase seven tickets and get the eighth one free.

Celebrate Philippine Independence Day
The Hernando County Philippine-American Association will host a 109th Philippine Independence Day picnic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 9 at Linda Pedersen Park, 6400 Shoal Line Blvd.
There will be no admission charge, but those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.

HIV/AIDS awareness seminar today
A free "Silence is Death" HIV/AIDS awareness seminar will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Allen Temple AME Church, 824 Leonard St.
The program will be presented by Hillsborough County Health Department Human Services Manager Mellita Mills-Kendrick and Hernando County Health Department Health Services Representative Laura Dunn. Free HIV/AIDS testing will be offered, using the OraSure HIV-1 specimen collection method, which involves no needles.

Boots and Pearls Ball includes an auction
Youth and Family Alternatives will host its second annual Boots and Pearls Ball on June 15 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Ave.
The event will begin with a cash bar at 6:30 p.m. A barbecue dinner by Bear's Monster Grill will be at 7 p.m., followed by entertainment by the Wiley Fox Band. There will be a live auction conducted by George Johnson from G.E. Johnson Auctioneers from McAlpin. Tickets are $60 each.
Table sponsorships are available and range from $1, 000 to $1, 500. Advertising in the event program is also available and ranges from $50 for a business card ad to $250 for a full-page ad.
The deadline for sponsorships and ads is June 1.

Head Start preschool enrollment starting
The Mid-Florida Community Services/Head Start Early Childhood Development Preschool Program in Hernando and Sumter counties is accepting enrollment applications for the 2007-08 school year.
This is a federally funded, income-eligible program for children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1.
Head Start also serves children with special needs and disabilities.
Applications are being accepted from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, or by appointment, at these locations:

To complete an application, parents or guardians must bring these documents: certified birth certificate, proof of guardianship (if applicable), documentation of child's disability (if applicable) and proof of income for the last 12 months or prior calendar year, including four current weekly pay stubs (or two biweekly), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, SSI letter, W-2 form from the prior year, statement of earnings from employer, unemployment verification, notarized statement of earnings for those self-employed or Form 1099.

Seniors, learn driver safety with AARP
AARP will conduct its Driver Safety classes in June:
