Sen. Clinton: Plan troop withdrawal

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday urged the Pentagon to plan quickly for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

"We've been hearing that there is either no or very limited planning for withdrawal. Withdrawal is very complicated. If they're not planning for it, it will be difficult to execute it in a safe and efficacious way, " the Democratic presidential candidate said.

Clinton met privately with the Joint Chiefs chairman, Gen. Peter Pace, late Tuesday and wrote Defense Secretary Robert Gates urging military leaders to begin such planning if they have not already.

Clinton refused to say how she would vote on a war spending bill due for a vote as early as today.
