Brother, sister arrested in school bus fray
One threatened the driver and the other damaged a squad car, authorities say.

TAMPA - Sheriff's deputies arrested a pair of siblings Thursday afternoon and accused them of blocking a school bus that had 15 children aboard.
Monika Iverson, 23, and Jeremiah Iverson, 18, used a 2004 Ford Focus to halt the path of the bus after it dropped off their 16-year-old sister from Armwood High School in Seffner, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Jeremiah Iverson threatened the driver, 50-year-old Joan McPhaul, with a brick from outside the bus, Carter said.
McPhaul called deputies, who arrested the pair, of 11745 Pruett Road in Seffner. When they put Monika Iverson into the squad car, she kicked out the rear window and bent the door frame, Carter said.
When the deputies took her to the ground to secure her feet, Iverson cut her face on broken glass from the window, Carter said. Then, while Hillsborough County Fire Rescue treated her cuts, she spit in the face of a deputy, Carter said.
"It was a difficult situation, but the bus driver did her job. She let law enforcement handle it, " said Hillsborough schools spokesman Steve Hegarty.
A deputy posted at Armwood High to monitor the last day of the school year saw the pair's sister create a disturbance before she got on the bus, Carter said. The deputy followed the bus home and left when the girl got off without incident.
Then, Carter said, her older siblings detained the bus. Neither deputies nor school officials could say why the two were angry.
Both siblings were held at the Orient Road Jail on Thursday evening. Jeremiah Iverson faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disrupting assembly.
Monika Iverson faces charges of criminal mischief, obstructing an officer with violence, disrupting assembly and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. Her criminal record includes four arrests on charges including aggravated battery, assault, trespassing and obstructing an officer without violence.

the problem with an article like this is that it allows everyones imagination to run wild. no background info - just a report about the end of the story without even knowing the rest of the story. MARC your comment is stupid just like this article.

Herbie may have witnessed the entire event from the short bus that followed closely behind. Given his mental retardation, he would probably have misunderstood what he saw.

Regardless of race, the penalties for these obviously disruptive heathens should be swift and SEVERE. The driver did the right thing, no telling what kind of actions they (kids) would have taken against her. She did admirably well.

Herbie, what are you talking about? How is the bus driver responsible for anything? Do you know something that the rest of us do not? I don't remembering reading anything about the actions of the bus driver, other than calling the cops.

Herbie, i don't understand...why would you say the bus driver is responsible? Did you read the article? Bus driver didn't do anything but drive the bus. Sorry, Herbie, the 2 Iverson "kids" are responsible for their actions.

Herbie, the resposible adult driver took appropriate action; called the law to deal with the criminals while she did her job. 23 is not a child. Sounds like she is a career criminal. Shame on the courts if she is out of jail before going to prison!

Herbie, are you serious! These "children" are 18 and 23. How is this the bus drivers fault. Maybe you should drive a bus and get threatened, I wonder how you would handle it.

Herbie... Did you read the same article I did? Not only did the bus driver do the right thing... But both of Iverson's are adults... You are absurd! Maybe you should re-read the article.

Hey, Herbie - Why is the busdriver responsible? I don't see that she was involved in any way. She did call the police but that was good because of the other childern on the bus.

Hold the busdriver responsible for what? Being threatened with a brick? Besides, the older sister is 23, well into legal adulthood.

Don't forget that the busdriver, who was an adult was responsible for this whole situation. Not to condone what the children did, but I'd hold the busdriver responsible.

i get the impression that a cell phone was somehow involved in what led up to the incident with the bus. there can be no excuse for such outrageous behavior and blatant disrespect for authority. sadly this behavior in our schools is becoming the norm

Wow, what a family. Someone should look into why this family is so violent. Children just don't happen to be so aggressive without some type of parental involvement or lack of. This family needs anger management classes.
