Young pilot dries out in Hong Kong
Bad weather has grounded Barrington Irving, the 23-year-old senior at Florida Memorial University who is attempting to fly his single-engine plane around the world. Thunderstorms have left Irving in Hong Kong, where he is riding double-decker buses and exploring "real" Chinese food. Irving, born in Jamaica and raised in Miami, hopes his scheduled five-week flight will inspire other young people.
Saint Leo University ranks in top of class
In its June issue, Consumers Digest magazine ranked Saint Leo University in St. Leo among the nation's top five best values in private colleges and universities. Schools were evaluated based on a formula that combined the academic achievements of first-time freshmen (standardized test scores, high school rank, grade point average) with the university's graduation rate, student-to-faculty ratio and percentage of the faculty with doctoral degrees. The university recently added new apartment-style residence halls and each resident student receives a laptop computer, said Gary G. Bracken, vice president of enrollment.
