While Hillsborough County was overlooked in Florida Mr. Baseball balloting, one of its coaches didn't go unnoticed. Alonso's Landy Faedo, who guided the Ravens to a 26-4 record and the Class 6A region finals, was named 6A Coach of the Year in a statewide balloting of coaches and media representatives. Faedo edged Deland's Ric Sperling and Gainesville Buchholz's Bob Smith for the honor. Under Faedo, Alonso won the 27-team Saladino Tournament and Class 6A, District 7 title before falling to eventual state champion Sarasota 3-2 in the region finals. Faedo is a finalist for the state's overall coach of the year award, to be presented after a final round of voting by reporters and coaches.
