A look at River Ridge

Published May 27, 2007

Coach: Tim Stevens

Last year: The Royal Knights did not win a game, going 0-10.

District: Class 4A-8 (Central, Land O'Lakes, Ridgewood, Springstead, Tarpon Springs)

Did you know? The last game River Ridge won was Oct. 14, 2004, a 30-12 win against Ridgewood. Since then the Royal Knights have lost 23 games, including back-to-back 0-10 seasons.

Breakout player: No one, or everyone. Unlike 2006, Stevens gets a core of returning players with varsity experience. No one stood above the rest, but Stevens was happy to see a clear progression.

Who's back: Stevens mentioned a handful of kids who caught his eye during the spring game. His confidence has grown in quarterback Blake Spinks. He feels good about tailbacks Shawn Ford and Stavros Arianas (who gets our vote for best name on the team). And what's not to like about linebacker Andrew Singer?

Spring revelation: This team can win. Players such as Ford are hoping for, at the very least, a .500 season and a shot at the playoffs. That could prove tough in a district with powerhouses such as Ridgewood, Land O'Lakes and Tarpon Springs.
