Latest citrus threat supplants canker

There's no doubt that Florida's citrus industry has "greening" on its mind. The fast spread of greening, a highly lethal disease that turns a tree's leaves yellow and its juice rancid, is a key part of the Florida citrus industry's annual conference June 6-8 in Bonita Springs. Four of the conference's five educational sessions zero in on greening, with such themes as "Greening - A Citrus Grower's Nightmare." Citrus greening, which is carried by the Asian citrus psyllid, has spread alarmingly fast since found in South Florida in August 2005. Not long ago, citrus growers were more obsessed with canker. Ah, for those old days. Canker is highlighted in just one of the conference's educational sessions ... and even there it shares equal billing with the new threat: "Canker and Greening Research - 'What's Going On.' "

C100 allows registered members to showcase themselves by including their name and Web link on the C100 Web site and other forums.
