TAMPA - Gary Lynn Gervais was driving to pick his wife up from work Sunday evening when he was struck and killed in a traffic accident at the corner of E Annie and 30th streets.

Gervais, 53, was driving a Honda scooter about 10 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota making a left turn.

Authorities took him in critical condition to Tampa General Hospital, where he died later that night.

According to Tampa police records, the Toyota driver, who was not identified, was cited for violation of right of way.

Nancy Gervais, his wife of 33 years, said Monday her husband was picking her up from her job at Busch Gardens' hospitality center when he was hit.

"He was a good person, a good father, a good grandfather, " she said. "He believed in God ... He read that Bible and everything."

Gervais and his family moved here from Des Moines, Iowa 14 years ago to care for his ailing mother. After his mother died, he and his wife stayed to raise three sons, all of whom came by their mother's house on Memorial Day to lend a hand.

The couple also have an 8-year-old grandson.

Nancy Gervais said her husband loved music - he played bass and guitar - and had worked in security for SunTrust Bank until a disability forced him to leave the job.
