Appraiser's office to close for training

The Hernando County Property Appraiser's Office will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 13 for staff training. The offices are at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville, and at the Westside Government Center, 7509 and 7525 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Call 754-4190.
Speak out on taxes at event tonight

Citizens and business owners from Citrus, Pasco and Hernando counties are invited to the Palace Grand at 5 p.m. to hear what Rubio has to say about property taxes and to ask questions. Hurricane Expo is set for Saturday
The Hernando County 2007 Hurricane Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Weeki Wachee Springs, 6131 Commercial Way. The event will include vendors, entertainment, a hurricane simulator, information on shelters and how to care for pets during a hurricane, maps showing evacuation routes, generator safety classes and other classes. Parking and admission are free. The Hernando Express Bus will shuttle to and from designated additional lots. Commissioners to talk tax reform
The Hernando County Commission will conduct a workshop at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the possible impact on the county budget with the tax-reform plans considered by the Florida Legislature. The workshop, in the commission chambers at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., will consider potential impacts to the county's government services. The state Legislature will begin a special session June 12 to consider the property tax reform issue. People with disabilities who need help to participate in the workshop should contact the commissioners' office at least 48 hours in advance. Call 754-4004.
