PSC want's new time line for Aloha upgrades
By TIMES WIRES
Published May 30, 2007
The Florida Public Service Commission has warned troubled Aloha Utilities to come up with a new time line by July 3 for finishing its required upgrades - and not delay any work because of political maneuvering by the Legislature or Pasco County. State Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, has called for the Legislature to hand over Aloha's territory to Pasco County utilities because of a six-month delay in installing the upgrades, and County Commissioner Jack Mariano has urged the county to take over regulation of private utilities. Aloha, which serves 25, 000 southwest Pasco customers, blamed the six-month delay on the county utility system last week. PSC general counsel Michael Cooke agreed then, but in a Thursday letter he urged Aloha to move forward with the upgrades and not use the politicians' proposals as an excuse to delay the upgrades any further.
Man accused of battering mother
Matthew C. Morrison was arrested at about 5 p.m. Monday in Land O' Lakes and accused of battering his mother. His weapons of choice, deputies say, were bread and cheese. Sheriff's deputies say an argument turned violent when Morrison, 28, shoved a cheese sandwich in his mother's face and another in her hair, then threw a piece of bread at her face and turned over the couch while she was still on it. When deputies arrived at Morrison's home, they used the food that covered Morrison's mom as evidence and arrested him, charging him with domestic battery, according to the report. He was booked into the Land O'Lakes jail. Bond has been set at $500.
