Investigators still don't know what killed a Spring Hill man who was found floating in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
Jay Mitchell Chapman, 45, had no apparent injuries, and preliminary autopsy results failed to determine the cause of death, said Gary Morse, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, which is investigating the incident.
There was no damage to his water scooter. "We're not even calling this a boating accident yet," Morse said Tuesday.
Another boater spotted Chapman floating face down off Hernando Beach and called 911. Chapman was rushed ashore and given CPR, but was pronounced dead at Oak Hill Hospital.
Additional tests were performed, but the results will not be available for 30 days.
