Jon Secada's a sound machine
Published May 31, 2007
He started in Gloria Estefan's Miami Sound Machine and ended up on Broadway playing the creepy emcee in Cabaret (and playing him well). Respect is due the man with that kind of career arc and the talent to navigate it smoothly. And you can pay it to Jon Secada when the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter performs with the Florida Orchestra at 8 tonight at the Ford Ampitheatre on the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
Singing with his band as well as the orchestra, Secada will do a bunch of his hits, including Just Another Day, Angel and Do You Believe in Us. Maybe he'll even throw in Wilkommen as the opener, though that may not work with this being the final concert of the orchestra's inaugural Festival de Musica Latina.
Tickets are $25 and $40; VIP seating, which includes food and drink, is $75. Ampitheatre box office; Ticketmaster at outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, (813) 287-8844, (727) 848-3137.
