Legal troubles haven't ended for former Pasco High football star Darren Hambrick, who last week signed with the Tampa Bay Storm's practice squad. Hambrick, 31, faces two counts of misdemeanor battery stemming from an October brawl at the notorious Trilacoochee nightclub Rumors. The case has been pending since January, but prosecutors did not file charges until Friday, accusing Hambrick of punching club bouncer Brian Thomas and another man. The Lacoochee native is still chasing a football comeback after playing three seasons in the NFL, the last in 2002. That's also the year he was arrested on a grand theft charge after authorities said he reported a paycheck from the Carolina Panthers as lost, then tried to cash it. He pleaded no contest in 2004, received probation and was given early release after paying all the money back.
Operation Cat Snip aims to fix strays
If feral cats are a problem in your neighborhood, Pasco County Animal Services is offering a solution: Bring 'em in and we'll fix 'em. Pasco residents can get traps from Animal Services to capture unclaimed cats and bring them to "Operation Cat Snip" on June 17, when the cats will be sterilized and vaccinated for a minimum $10 donation per cat. Residents would then return the cats to the place where they were captured. The goal, Animal Services said, is to sterilize and vaccinate 100 "free-roaming and un-owned cats" in this first-ever Pasco event. Residents must register in advance: Call Terry at Animal Services between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday, at 813 929-1212 in central Pasco; (727) 834-3216 in west Pasco; and (352) 521-5194 in east Pasco.
