NBA
Donovan introduced as Magic coach

ORLANDO - It began with a phone call to merely gauge interest one week ago. And today, the Orlando Magic's full-court press on Billy Donovan culminated with his introduction as the NBA club's new coach.
Though Donovan said during a lengthy news conference this morning at the team's practice facility that there were many factors that made the job attractive, it was painful leaving the University of Florida, where he was coach the past 11 seasons - the last two ending with national championships.
"For me, it was difficult because my 11 years at Florida were great with a lot of fond memories, " the 42-year-old Donovan said. "I think the easy decision would have been to stay at Florida. The next (option) would be to do something that would really challenge me. For me, leaving the University of Florida would really have to take something special."
If Donovan wanted a challenge, he'll get one. To live up to his reported five-year, $27.5-million contract, he'll have to improve a Magic team that parted ways with former coach Brian Hill even though the team qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs. They were swept in the first round by the Detroit Pistons.
But Donovan sees big things within reach for the Magic.
"People can talk about winning championships, but I really believe, here in Orlando, they have a chance to do that. It's an exciting time."
Donovan said his decision to leave UF had nothing to do with the pace of negotiations toward a new contract with the school. He said the sides were close to an agreement when the Magic expressed interest and that his close friendship with athletic director Jeremy Foley will not change.
Donovan takes over a Magic team that features several players with whom he has past experience. He recruited Dwight Howard and Trevor Ariza before they opted to skip college and enter the NBA. And he also pursued 2006 first-round pick J.J. Redick who ultimately opted to attend Duke.
As for Florida's next coach, Donovan made a case for former assistant Anthony Grant, but said he ultimately would not interfere in the Gators' search unless Foley asks for his input.

Typical Gator Philosophy: Pledge your "love" for UF and then sellout for the $$$$!!! Lon Kruger, Stevie Superior, and now, Billy Ball. I'm sure Urban Crier with his (cheap) 150k buyout will be next, about a year from now.

So,like your mentor Rick Pitino, go take the NBA money and then return to the NCAA.
The differences: NCAA, you control the play and the players, along with being treated as a King.
NBA, the players control the Coach, and the Owner is King.
