SPRING HILL

Two teenagers' mischief could have led to a perilous blaze Thursday afternoon. Instead, the damage was limited to the boys losing their television and gaming privileges. Deputies were called to the YMCA at Mariner Boulevard and Henderson Street about 4 p.m. by a YMCA employee who said he saw the teens running out of the woods near the center throwing rocks at each other. He then noticed a fire in the dry woods. The boys admitted they were smoking cigarettes and did not put them out, which caused the fire, according to a report. Spring Hill Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the fire. Deputies scolded the teens on the dangers of smoking and wildfires and called the boys' parents, who thanked the authorities for the way they handled the situation and said the boys would go without their home entertainment for a month.
