1. Interstate 175, downtown St. Petersburg: Workers will be "rehabilitating" I-175's concrete surface during June, cutting out slabs that are in bad condition and replacing them. "Right now it's all scheduled for night, but we may do some work during the day, " said state Transportation Department spokesman John McShaffrey. When they did this work on I-375, some nighttime work was moved to day after neighbors complained of noise. 2. McMullen-Booth Road: It will continue to be closed to through traffic between Drew Street and State Road 580 for the next two weeks, causing commuting headaches for tens of thousands of people in North Pinellas. McMullen-Booth is closed so a CSX railroad crossing north of Ruth Eckerd Hall can be rebuilt. U.S. 19 will serve as the main detour route for traffic. 3. South and west of Tampa International Airport: Traffic is slowing down here because the state is midway through a five-year project to unravel congestion on Memorial Highway, State Road 60, the Courtney Campbell Parkway, Eisenhower Boulevard and Spruce Street. "While we still have the same number of lanes, with the construction it's more constrained, " McShaffrey said. 4. Interstate 75 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: Crews working on exit ramps may be closing one lane at a time during the day on MLK Boulevard near its interchange with I-75. Lanes will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., but not during the morning or evening rush hours. "Closing lanes during rush hour would jam things up for miles, " McShaffrey said.
