U.S. 19 is No. 1 in area fatalities

By CHUIN-WEI YAP

No prizes for guessing which road topped Pasco's most dangerous thoroughfares last year.

U.S. 19 was the deadliest, according to the county's 2006 traffic crash report, which was released late Monday. The west Pasco artery is followed by a clutch of others in fast-growing central Pasco, including State Road 54, Interstate 75, SR 52 and U.S. 41.

In terms of all crashes -- and not just fatal ones -- central Pasco had the dubious honor of dominating the top locations.

Among the top seven most dangerous junctions, one was in Hudson and one was outside Dade City. The rest were in Wesley Chapel and Land O'Lakes.

Butch - the motorcycle riders could stop weaving in and out of traffic, too. There are bad drivers using every kind of vehicle.

given the amount of bars and homeless in the area, there is no wonder as to why the crashes and deaths.is there a decline since the lights went up to denton ave? the bumper sticker "pray for me i drive u.s.19"is making alot of sense..take other routes

You ought to try riding a motorcycle up and down 19. I think most of the stupid people in Pinellas and Pasco Counties gravitate to that road. Hang up your cell phones and pay attention to the road.

No doubt a lot are pedestrians crossing late at night.
