-The four-year U.S. military toll in Iraq passed 3, 500 after a soldier was reported killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad. -Bombings, shootings, mortar attacks and execution-style killings left at least 62 Iraqis dead nationwide Thursday. -A British soldier was shot in southern Iraq, pushing to at least 150 the number of deaths reported by the British military. Also, the British ambassador to Iraq signaled his government was ready to talk to those behind the abduction of five Britons in Baghdad last month. -Staff Sgt. Justin Laughner testified that he was ordered to destroy grisly pictures of women and children killed by U.S. Marines in Haditha. The testimony, taken under immunity, is the first evidence suggesting a Marine officer may have engaged in a coverup in the deaths of 24 Iraqis in 2005. -In a rare TV interview, Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr blamed the United States for Iraq's woes: "We are now facing a brutal Western assault against Islam." -Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, President Bush's nominee to be war adviser, said in a confirmation hearing that he has serious concerns about the Iraqi government's ability to take control, no matter how much pressure is applied by the United States.
