TAMPA

An Odessa man who says he spotted an endangered Florida panther this week is looking for a pickup truck driver who may have also seen the giant cat as he tries to document the sighting.

Tom Goldsworthy said he was eastbound on Lutz-Lake Fern Road Wednesday when the panther crossed from the north to the south side of the roadway about 2:45 p.m.

"It was a beautiful sight, " Goldsworthy said. "Poetry in motion."

The sighting lasted about three seconds. A large, black pickup truck was driving westbound and slowed down when the panther crossed in front of it, Goldsworthy said.

Goldsworthy, a hunter for more than two decades, wants to find the man in the truck to confirm what he saw. He's trying to document the sighting with state fish and wildlife officials.

"It certainly does help to have more than one person who has seen it, " Goldsworthy said.

The driver of the pickup truck or anyone who knows how to reach him can contact Goldsworthy at 813 363-6363 or tr@goldsworthy.com.
