EAST LAKE Take a hike to learn how the land changed Take a walk through time from 9 to 11 a.m. each Saturday in June on a guided hike along the Education Center Trail at the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs. TARPON SPRINGS Improve reading skills by reading each day Research shows that children who read 20 minutes a day five days a week can improve their reading skills over the summer. Read N' Play gives children the opportunity to read aloud to teen volunteers for at least 20 minutes from 2 to 4 p.m. every Friday through July at the Tarpon Springs Library, 138 E Lemon St., Tarpon Springs. Children who read for 120 minutes or more will be invited to a special reading celebration Aug. 2. Call (727) 943-4922. DUNEDIN 'We fix It' program seeks volunteers Can you fix stuff? The Hale Activity Center is seeking adults 50 and older to join the 20-year-old "We fix It" referral program which pairs seniors in need of odd jobs with handy helpers. Experienced workers are needed in a variety of tasks including, light carpentry and electric work. Volunteers also are needed to help staff the center's gift shopt during normal business hours.Volunteer shifts would be for three hours once a week Monday through Friday. Friendly, outgoing volunteers are needed at the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center as exhibit hall docents and summer camp assistants. Call 453-6800. COUNTYWIDE Volunteers needed in mentoring program Gulf Coast Community Care needs volunteers age 30 and older for its mentoring program. Volunteers are matched with children who need a positive adult role model. There is a need for volunteers for children of all ages. No experience necessary, no costs. CLEARWATER Variety of summer exhibits at library The library is for more than books. The Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave., has a variety of exhibits on display through the summer: -Read stories of local foster children aged 8 to 16 and see professional portraits that feature faces, voices and stories at the Progress Energy Heart Gallery. The exhibit runs through Aug. 10. -Self-portraits drawn by Clearwater young people are in the About Face exhibit until Aug. 28. -Collectables and unique beads by Maryann Larson are in the Awesome Bead Hats exhibit until Aug. 28.
