Juneteenth celebration planned Saturday

Don't forget about the annual Juneteenth community event celebrating the end of slavery, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Park, 601 14th St. S, St. Petersburg.

It will include music, food, a wellness pavilion, rides and a historical presentation. Free parking will be available at Tropicana Field Lots 1, 2 and 3, Campbell Park Elementary School and Campbell Park Recreation Center, with handicapped parking on 14th Street S in front of the community center.

Parking is also available at John Hopkins Middle School for $2.

ST. PETERSBURG

Florida Craftsman will feature art from Japan

Artlink Japan 2007, a multicultural exhibit featuring an exchange of art between St. Petersburg and similar programs in Japan, opens Friday at Florida Craftsman Gallery, 501 Central Ave. The opening reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibit runs through July 31.

Artlink, which began in 1999, is presented by Creative Clay, a St. Petersburg nonprofit group whose mission is to make the arts accessible to all. Creative Clay director Grace-Anne Alfiero conceived the project and visited five cities in Japan this year to collect art for this year's exhibit.

There will be a performance at 7 p.m. Sunday at American Stage featuring three Artlink teams and additional community performances from American Stage's educational programs.

Beacon House benefit is Friday at the Trop

The St. Petersburg Free Clinic's Beacon House will hold the Urban Oasis Benefit at 8 p.m. Friday in the Cuesta Ray cigar bar at Tropicana Field. The purpose is to raise money for the men's shelter. Tickets are $50 each with a 10 percent discount for groups of 10 or more. Call Rebecca Russell-Gootee at 821-1200, ext. 114, for information.

Grand old flags can be retired

A flag retirement ceremony featuring the MacDill Air Force Base Honor Guard will be held at noon June 14 at Chic-A-Si Park, Fourth Avenue and Second Street, Indian Rocks Beach. American flags that are torn or tattered can be brought to the ceremony or dropped off at Indian Rocks Beach City Hall, 1507 Bay Palm Blvd.; or at VFW Post 10094, 14288 Walsingham Road.
