Mobile home crushed by big tree limb

A massive tree limb flattened a mobile home off U.S. 301 Tuesday evening. At 5:55 p.m., Pasco County Fire Rescue was called to a mobile home park at 10335 U.S. 301. The people living in the mobile home had apparently gotten out, and no one was taken to the hospital. Fire Rescue officials said they were unsure what caused the limb to fall.


Thief uses gun to snatch purse

A man followed a woman home from the 7-Eleven on Monday night, pressed a black handgun to her neck and stole her purse, authorities said. The woman first saw the man at the 7-Eleven at Madison Street and Trouble Creek Road sometime after 9 p.m., according to a sheriff's incident report. When she drove home to Sarah Lane, he followed in a black Ford Bronco. She pulled into her driveway, with her driver's-side window halfway down. He stuck the gun through the window and demanded her purse. After he took the purse, she heard a gunshot. A deputy later removed a bullet from her rear tire. The thief was described as a white man with tattoos of letters or numbers up and down both arms. He was accompanied by a red-haired woman and an Asian male, the victim said. The case was still open on Tuesday.


Young volunteers meet at Nye Park

The GFWC Little Women of Lutz will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nye Park in Lutz. These young women, ages 12 through 18, work together through volunteer projects to serve the needs of their communities. Service hours accumulate toward graduation. Call Marilyn Wannamaker at (813) 949-1482.


Chamber will present awards

The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce will have its annual installation and awards banquet at 6 p.m. June 21 at the Saddlebrook Resort on State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel. Cost is $40 per person. The chamber's Power Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Benedetto's Italiano Ristorante, 21529 Village Lakes Shopping Center, Land O'Lakes. Cost is $15. Schools leader to list highlights

Pasco County schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino will be the guest speaker for the Republican Club of Central Pasco meeting at 6 p.m. June 20 at Steve's Fountainview Restaurant in the Government Building on U.S. 41 in Land O'Lakes. She will discuss highlights of the past school year and plans for the coming year. Members are asked to bring gift cards for the Fisher House. Call (813) 996-3011.
