This past season Bishop McLaughlin's baseball team earned its first state ranking, won its first district title and picked up its first playoff victory.
You can add another first for the young program - its first all-state players.
On Thursday, the Florida Sports Writers Association released the Class A all-state team and Hurricane juniors Chris Overbeck and Marcel Duarte as well as sophomore Mike Gonzalez were all on it.
Overbeck was named to the second team, while Duarte and Gonzalez each made third-team.
The trio played pivotal roles in Bishop McLaughlin's 18-7 season that included a huge win over Tampa Prep - coach Nick Rodriguez's former team and a higher classified team - and an appearance in the region semifinals.
On the mound, Overbeck, nicknamed Big Country, went 10-2 with a 2.33 ERA. The right-hander threw 64 innings, allowing 28 hits and striking out 44.
He was backed up by an explosive Hurricanes offense, led by Duarte and Gonzalez. Duarte, an outfielder, led the Hurricanes with 29 RBIs and batted .373 with 25 runs scored.
Gonzalez, an infielder, batted a team-high .459 and scored 28 runs while driving in 23 others.
