Red Cross to mark 90th anniversary

TAMPA - How does a local chapter of the American Red Cross commemorate a 90th anniversary? A black-tie mock disaster, perhaps? Nope. Lunch. But lunch with Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, the organization's national chairman and former U.S. ambassador to Finland. McElveen-Hunter, noteworthy for her efforts to protect women and children from HIV/AIDS, slavery and drug abuse, earned one of Finland's highest honors: the Commander Grand Cross of the Order of the Lion. The public is invited to Thursday's luncheon, from noon to 1:30 p.m., but today is the last day to RSVP. Call 813-348-4820, ext. 880, for more information.
